New medical seats at the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick
Vitalité Health Network, Thursday, October 13, 2022 – At a press conference held today, the Government of New Brunswick announced the addition of four medical seats starting in 2023 at the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick (CFMNB) at the Université de Moncton.
Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO of Vitalité Health Network, was at the press conference and said she was thrilled with these additional seats that will help mitigate the shortage of physicians in certain regions of the Network.
“The availability of health professionals, including physicians, is one of the factors that affects access to health care. The addition of seats at the CFMNB augurs well for the future,” noted Dr. Desrosiers. “Through our university mission, we are committed to helping train students by providing them with quality internships in our facilities. We also hope to be able to count on their services in the Acadian region.”
The government’s investment to fund the four new seats will be $172,000 annually; this is in addition to the $4.8 million already invested in the CFMNB for the Doctor of Medicine Program.
This investment supports the new provincial health plan, Stabilizing Health Care: An Urgent Call to Action which has five action areas: access to primary health care, access to surgery, create a connected system, access to addiction and mental health services and support seniors to age in place.
